The Exercise Ball: All the Fitness Equipment or Exercise Equipment You’ll Ever Need and Want, Part II
I really cannot imagine anyone who is serious about fitness not owning an exercise ball or not regularly using an exercise ball at the gym. By far the exercise ball has got to be one of the best fitness equipment or exercise equipment inventions on the market today, yesterday, and tomorrow. Honestly, you have to get this ball, particularly if you want to save money on your chiropractic spine adjustments.
I love getting my spine adjusted. However, I often use the exercise ball because it reduces the number of spine adjustments I need/want throughout the year and saves me money. How so? This fantastic exercise equipment minimizes lower back tension and discomfort by thoroughly stretching the lower back. It is fitness equipment that also effectively strengthens the lower back.
Now, if you’re not accustomed to getting spine adjustments then you may not understand how this exercise equipment can help you save money on this expense. That’s ok. Go purchase you an exercise ball and consider the suggestion below on how to use the exercise ball to stretch and strengthen your back, namely your lower back, anyway.
Of course, if you’re suffering from chronic back pain or if you have suffered a back injury I certainly do not recommend using the exercise ball in the manner I am about to describe without first consulting with a physician. As for all others, if you do the following it may minimize the number of spine adjustments you normally get in a year and save you money! So enjoy!
First, sit down on the floor with the exercise ball behind you. Position yourself so that the ball is right at the back of your neck and shoulders. Then slowly roll the ball all the way down your back, carefully arching your back until the ball reaches the base of your spine, lower back, tailbone, or sacrum. (As I move the ball down my back I often pause in a particular spot (and slowly rock back and forth) for additional stretching.)
Next, with your head, neck, and upper back planted firmly on the floor and your pelvic propped up in the air on the exercise ball, bend your knees and slowly bring them toward your head, as if doing a reverse curl. If you desire and are able you may straighten out your legs over your head until your toes rest lightly on the floor. Sometimes I do this. Sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I can’t.
Regardless of what you decide to do never strain or force the movements. Also, make sure you use the exercise ball with the same precaution that you would use any other fitness equipment. Finally, use an exercise ball that you’re comfortable with, as they vary in sizes. (Google how to choose the right exercise ball for you or something similar.)
