How to Save Money on Food and Save Money on Groceries Without Coupons
It used to be that I only prayed over the food I was about to eat. Now I pray over the food in my shopping basket or cart. Why? Because I want to save money on food and I want to save money on groceries every time I visit the grocery store or supermarket.
This month alone I probably saved over $40 on my food and grocery bill. Last month I saved about $20. And these savings had nothing to do with coupons because there are other ways to save money on food and to save money on groceries.
So, what are those others ways? One way is to simply check your receipt for discrepancies. I can’t tell you how many times I have received a purchase for FREE, plus my money refunded, after being overcharged for an item that I happily made known to the person at the customer service counter. This is one way I save money on food and save money on groceries without coupons.
Specifically, at the Whole Foods Market I not only save money on food and save money on groceries when I’m overpriced, but I save money whenever I’ve been inconvenienced in anyway. And, no, I don’t always ask for a freebie or a discount when I’m inconvenienced. Some times I’m offered my freebie or discount, as I should be!
So, in addition to using coupons, if you want to save money on food and you want to save money on groceries do like I do. But remember 2 things. First, if you’ve been overcharged for something don’t even mention it to the cashier. They can’t reimburse you your money anyway. Smile, take your receipt, and go to the customer service counter. If the person there does not offer you a refund AND the product for FREE just simply ask them if that is a policy or something they do for customers at their store. If necessary, quickly and nicely mention the fact that because of this situation you’ve been inconvenienced by having to walk over to the customer service area (and stand in line again) when you should be on your way out of the store.
The second thing you should remember if you want to save money on food and you want to save money on groceries is to EXPECT and, if necessary, ASK for a freebie or a discount when you’ve been inconvenienced in any way. It never hurts to ask. For example, recently I asked for and received a discount on my Whole Foods Market Rotisserie chicken because one wasn’t available at a time when plenty of them usually are and should have been available for purchase. Instead, there was an over 15 minute wait. So the discount was compensation for inconveniencing a valued, frequent customer—that would be me! And it could be you too!
